Functional Chiropractor
Wichita

I grew up here in Wichita with the good fortune of having a father, Dr. Ron Hunninghake, who was a trailblazer in the world of orthomolecular medicine. (Orthomolecular medicine, meaning “right molecules,” included a group of some of the first doctors to understand the value of using high doses of nutrients to treat and prevent disease.)  I had the unique upbringing of taking supplements when I was sick rather than medication. My parents limited sugar, made all of our whole food-rich meals at home, and valued an active lifestyle. Of course, growing up, I thought my dad was crazy, as all good kids do! But the older I got, I came to understand and appreciate the passion he helped instill in me for understanding the root cause of disease and treating that, rather than masking symptoms.

After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of sciences in psychology, I moved to Seattle to attend Bastyr University to pursue a degree in naturopathic medicine. I finished my first year at Bastyr and due to life circumstances (meeting my husband and getting married!), I ended up moving to Atlanta, where I finished my doctorate in chiropractic medicine at Life University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. While in chiropractic school, I had my daughter and discovered my passion for working with children. I pursued an advanced track and post-graduate training in the field of pediatrics and pregnancy.

After graduating, I worked with a prominent chiropractor in Atlanta who had a pediatric functional neurology background and worked with children who had developmental delays and were on the autism spectrum. From him I learned the important role the structure of the body plays in neurological development in children. For me, the piece that was still missing was the integration of functional medicine. So seven years ago we moved back to Wichita to give me the opportunity to work with and learn from my dad (and many other very skilled medical and naturopathic doctors). At the Riordan Clinic I was afforded the opportunity to combine my passions for chiropractic medicine with integrative medicine. While my dad remains one of my closest friends and mentors, I am excited for a new opportunity at Prairie Health to learn, grow, and serve the community.

As a chiropractic doctor, I see people of all ages. I believe chiropractic is best used in a preventative model. I love to help educate patients on how chiropractic can be beneficial for more conditions than just neck and back pain (though it is good for those too!). I use a low-force, highly-effective, specific adjusting technique to maximize clinical outcomes as well as patient comfort. Most of my patient visits include an element of functional medicine, as pain is often related to the metabolic function of the body.

While my passion still remains working with children, combining my training in chiropractic as well as functional medicine, no matter the age, I love walking the path toward better health and wellness with people of all ages.

I have a wonderful and supportive husband, Kirk, three beautiful children … and, after living in Atlanta, a whole new appreciation for how wonderful Wichita really is! I have a passion for anything outdoors – but especially running. While our kids keep us busy with sports and activities, we love every minute of our time as a family.
